Samujana Villas | Thailand

So you can imagine how many seconds it took me to answer the question “would you fancy a week at Samujana, one of Thailands most luxurious collection of villas in the middle of this godforsaken winter?” Less than a 5 milliseconds exactly.*

However, I have to admit that while my heart said yes in an instant and typed ‘book me in’ without hesitation, my mind told me to research said ‘luxury villa’ before hitting send. My heart, in its haste to jump at the opportunity of a week away from routine, forgot that my patience for lack lustre luxury has worn thin over the past 41 years and that my mind can not be tricked into thinking that marble in the bathroom or a free bottle of water on arrival does not make for a luxurious stay necessarily. Its about the way in which the marble has been used and how the bottle of water is presented. Luxury is a word that needs to be applied holistically when it comes to accommodation and travel. And I am happy to now report that for Samujana Villas the L word is totally appropriate.

Thanks to Uber, I am no longer the kids only taxi service so organising the copious amounts of school and sport pick ups and drop offs for the week was a breeze. The small fortune in fares that it cost me was definitely worth it as I soon discovered the allure of supreme exclusivity on a tropical island.

Looking down over the cascading mosaic of manicured garden roof tops and white washed concrete and stacked stone villas rolling down to the islands north-east beachfront, Samujana merges gracefully from the lush palms of an otherwise manicured jungle. After travelling just ten short minutes from Koh Samui International Airport our group couldn’t help but to be in awe of the breath taking views on offer just beyond the infinity edge pool of Villa 28.  Designed by Indonesian based, English architect Gary Fell, Samujana villas range in size from three to eight bedroom, truly luxurious retreats that are available both for sale and for lease as holiday accommodation.

With every villa having its own infinity edge pool looking out over unobstructed sea views and the coral cove below, you will find it hard to want to leave the confines of your new home. Each villa at Samujana comes with its own personal villa manager to ensure you are wanting for NOTHING during your entire stay and  there is also the option of hiring your own in-house chef for your every meal. The best option for those of you who love Thai food and a cooked breakfast each morning.

If yoga gets you going then you can get your visyana on by booking  instructors to come in at any time of the day, or if you want to literally want to get your bottom kicked into gear with your training regime, then a Muay Thai kickboxing session may be more your thing with one of the islands world champion kick boxing experts – who also just happens to train the King of Thailand.

With six bedrooms, each with their own ensuite, Villa 28 was our home for the week and I personally felt like I had died and gone to heaven. The multi levelled villa was a retreat in every sense of the word and offers complete privacy and peace and quiet no matter what room you stayed in. Samujana is the perfect place to book for groups of friends or for a combined family vacation as the villas happily allow for each and every guest to have their own space to retreat to when looking for peace and quiet as well as providing stunning open space communal areas for everyone to play and eat in at any time of the day. This is definitely a place I’ll be going back to with the kids – and with a group of friends.
